Nature Based Solution SME (Sustainability Leader).

Charlton Morris is excited to present an opportunity to work with one of the biggest companies in the world in an exciting new area of their business focused on the Energy transition. The position of "Nature-Based Sustainability leader" will have a focus across both project and product development in carbon offsets.

 

The Sustainability leader will be responsible for developing a strategy to action to and maximize the value of NBS, including identifying, prioritizing, evaluating, and planning Nature-based Offset projects to build out a new line of product offerings. The SME will bring an understanding of the NBS regulatory environment and market potential. The SME should have technical experience in the fields relevant to offset opportunities (e.g., forestry, soil carbon, mangroves) to test opportunities and create the right portfolio of offerings that offset carbon and recognize opportunities to produce ecosystem services and maximize co-benefits.

 

This role builds the supply of high-quality nature-based offsets via a hands-on / on-the-ground approach, applying their own experience managing complex projects with myriad stakeholders, including engaging local communities, regulators, land managers, experts, and industry organizations to ensure the highest quality solutions.

 

• Recommend projects, lead technical planning, and support operations of nature-based carbon offset projects including soil management, reforestation, methane capture, etc. based on on-site feasibility, regional suitability, and strategy goals
• Facilitate & support development teams to conduct the appropriate site evaluations, preparation, and natural resource studies for new developments.
• Conduct inspections and verification of nature-based offset production
• Develop long-term community engagement for proposed projects using deep cultural sensitivity (e.g., with local community leaders and farmers) and create a shared value proposition
• Provide subject matter expertise to facilitate the creation and management of project documentation including project design, verification, and monitoring reports
• Ensure Nature-Based Solution project compliance with relevant protocols and coordinate third-party verification
• Closely coordinate with Company SMEs for research of future opportunities in carbon cycling, storage, and management in agricultural soils

 

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
• 5+ years experience in relevant nature-based carbon offset solutions: biology, plant science, forestry, arboriculture, soil science, etc.
• Demonstrated experience in reforestation/restoration projects, carbon offset project implementation, and commercializing opportunities.
• Demonstrated capability of working in a diverse and distributed team environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in relevant field
• 10+ experience in relevant nature-based carbon offset solutions: biology, plant science, forestry, arboriculture, soil science, etc.
• Demonstrated experience in reforestation/restoration projects, carbon offset project implementation, and commercializing opportunities.
