As part of their current expansion plan in Europe, a market leader in water based chemicals and polymers is looking to add an exceptional Purchasing Manager to their team in the Stuttgart area. The company is a global leader in the production of chemicals for performance coatings for a variety of flexible and non-flexible substrates such as textile, paper, plastics, wood and polymers. They have multiple state-of-the-art R&D, Applications and Production facilities worldwide and just under 2,000 employees. This will be a key hire where you will be responsible for multiple indirect procurement categories, supporting the competitiveness of the company’s business across Europe, and locally at the site in Germany. This role will be dually focused on daily purchasing activities and longer-term strategic procurement initiatives, and will give shape to and execute the transformation towards a more effective and efficient Global procurement organization.

The role is vital to support the European business being competitive by translating their needs as input for sourcing strategies, negotiations and contracts. The business will benefit greatly from the addition of an experienced sourcing professional who is both ‘hands-on’ and who can see the bigger strategic picture. You will develop and implement regional sourcing activities across assigned categories in-line with global commercial agenda. The successful profile will include a solid educational background with a Bachelor’s degree or higher, possess excellent communication skills and proactivity. You will be responsible for the commercial strategies around contract negotiation, approval and maintenance, but also ensuring all purchasing delivers competitive advantage to the company. Your role will be in charge of delivering procurement savings plans (TCO) across several key indirect categories, and continuously monitoring, evaluating and forecasting to foresee market trends.

The role:

With a growth mindset, you will be in charge of a €20-40M spend across multiple indirect categories including Fleet, Energy, Travel, Office Supplies, IT, MRO, Lab Equipment, Real Estate, and more. Reporting to the Regional Head of Indirect Procurement, you will take responsibility for obtaining maximum value from procurement processes.

 

Within the role you will:

  • Contribute actively to the strategic transformation of the function, creating and deploying regional sourcing strategies.
  • Be responsible for supplier relationship management of key suppliers in the supplier portfolio across categories.
  • Deliver sustainable improvements in terms of cost, quality, service, innovation and sustainability, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Be authorized to negotiate and contract directly with all suppliers of the category on behalf of the company. While remaining fully accountable, may delegate the management of part of the spend to the regional procurement organization. Ensure all purchased goods and services required are appropriately negotiated and contracts bring competitive advantage.
  • Ensuring creation (in collaboration with other Purchasing colleagues) and deployment of regional/global sourcing strategies.
  • Deliver sustainable improvements in terms of cost, quality, service, innovation and sustainability, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Managing supply risk and supporting escalated supply issues resolution.
  • Contribute to a further professionalization of the Procurement function within the business.

 

How do I apply?

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Indirect Procurement. Knowledge of chemicals, plastics, consumer goods, automotive are all interesting.
  • Relevant experience negotiating at a high level, and proven ability to drive cost and quality performance improvements.
  • Valid eligibility to live and work in Europe, with fluency in English and German.
