Lead Paper Coating Engineer.

Baden-Baden - Germany €75,000 - 90,000

As part of their current recruitment drive within the CASE segment, a leading international emulsion polymer business is looking to add an exceptional Lead Coating Engineer/ Application Development Engineer to support growth in the paper and packaging business. The company is a global leader in the production of polymer dispersions, with multiple state-of-the-art R&D, Applications and Production facilities worldwide and over 2400 employees. As the CASE business is entering a new growth phase, this will be a key hire where you will collaborate with multiple layers of the organisation to run applications tests on the company’s latex binders for paper, board and packaging applications. The Development Engineer is a role requiring a technically experienced candidate in the paper or packaging industry, to focus on application work around paper coatings, packaging, barrier coatings, varnishing, sealants, specialty papers and board binders.

The position in question is a crucial addition to the technical ream in EMEA, where the organisation is making great progress in the specialty paper and packaging segments, and will now bring on an experienced individual with a background in this area to strengthen their technical prowess. You must have an academic (BS) background in Chemistry or Polymer Science and be able to define and execute different formulation plans, set up and run application tests, make rheology measurements and analyses, and operate/ manage the Multilayer Curtain Coating (MLCC) equipment. Close collaboration with R&D and Technical Service colleagues will be essential, as well as customer support on a project basis.

The role:

You will be independently responsible for expanding the company’s application technology expertise, and formulation capabilities. Focus areas will be specialty papers and packaging to offset the market decline of traditional (graphical) paper products. You will support and develop the know-how of the Lab Technicians, and develop the testing process and requirements linked to board coating, barrier and packaging. The products are binders based on Acrylic, Styrene, S-A and S-B chemistries. A strong understanding of polymer chemistry is a big advantage, and previous experience in the paper, board and packaging industry is essential. You will take primary responsibility for the oversight and operation of the Multilayer Curtain Coater (MLCC) machine, conducting trials and coordinating with both customers and internal R&D colleagues.

Why would you want to work here?

Enthusiastic, driven, entrepreneurial personalities will thrive within this business. The company is a global leader in chemicals and plastics, touching almost every end-product imaginable, with a rich and high-quality product heritage.
