Technical Service Manager - Adhesives & Sealants.

Baden-Baden - Germany €95,000 - 115,000

As part of their current recruitment drive within the CASE segment, a leading international emulsion polymer business is looking to add an exceptional Technical Service & Development Specialist to support growth. The company is a global leader in the production of plastics, rubbers and polymer dispersions, with multiple state-of-the-art R&D, Applications and Production facilities worldwide and over 2400 employees. As the CASE business is entering a new growth phase, this will be a key hire where you will collaborate with multiple areas of the organisation on product development and customer technical support while positioning yourself as a technology leader within the industry. The Technical Service Manager is a hybrid role requiring a technically experienced candidate in adhesive applications, with the commercial acumen to understand product impact on the market, as well as the ability to lead high-stakes product development projects.

The position in question is a crucial addition to the EMEA team, with the ability to influence up and down the Construction business. The organisation is making great progress in this market and will now bring on an experienced individual with a background in non-cementitious construction adhesives, sealants and membranes to strengthen their technical prowess. You must have an academic background in Chemistry or Polymer Science and be able to participate in and lead key application development projects. Primary functions of this role include identification of market requirements, translation of customer needs into product solutions, running application lab assignments and being a technical key account manager for core customers. Close collaboration with R&D, Sales and Production colleagues is essential. Your commercial responsibility will be to work with Sales teams to build close customer relationships, recognise requirements and opportunities within strategic accounts, and enhance their technical leadership in the market.

Why would you want to work here?

Enthusiastic, driven, entrepreneurial personalities will thrive within this business. The company is a global leader in chemicals and plastics, touching almost every end-product imaginable, with a rich and high-quality product heritage. Despite almost $4B in 2019 sales, the company maintains the culture of an SME, encouraging each and every employee to have a voice. This family feel allows for exposure to all levels within the organisation - Management are always open to hearing new ideas. For enthusiastic and successful employees, a steep upward career trajectory is on offer, with multiple options for progression including headcount management, larger geography and even moving into an adjacent function or relocating internationally.

The role:

You will be independently responsible for technically representing the company and the portfolio of products within the Construction business – centred around Acrylic, Styrene, S-A and S-B chemistries. This means a strong understanding of construction applications – adhesives, sealants, waterproofing, membranes – in a highly competitive marketplace. The prime objective of this position is the provision of cutting-edge solutions to market, as well as indirect revenue generation through effective technical service and customer account management. Confidence in the company and the brand is of the utmost importance as the successful candidate will spend around half of their time conducting Application Development activities, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to push innovation in the segment. You must be a hands-on technical professional who will not only plan and oversee Application Development projects but also be directly involved in the practical work.
